Professing to be wise? | |
This is a KJV Bible study guide. Proverbs 1:7 "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction." [Want to learn more? Reverence God properly. A fool is someone that hates Godly advice, sound wisdom and instruction; many even deny God exists; they say there is no God for me. These people deceive no one but themselves]. Proverbs 3:7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. [Many think they are wise, choose not to revere God, repent and change their ways, and quit doing evil deeds. Who is deceived in this case]? Romans 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, [Could this go along with the 2 verses above]? Some of the many verses on this topic that are important: Proverbs 12:15, 13:20, 14:16, 15:2 and 15:14; Ecclesiastes 7:9. Based on these verses, what does God think of those that think they are wise? Are they really wise? I don't think so. Think about this: Luke 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do”. What did Jesus really mean? Could there be more than one thing meant in this statement by Jesus? 1. We know that those responsible for His crucifixion either didn't know or didn't believe He was the only begotten Son of God. Again, is there more to His statement? Could it have meant even more? 2. Was His crucifixion part of God's plan from way back; see 1 John 3:8 below. I certainly believe it was part of God's plan. For example, totally accurate events, sayings and a physical description of the crucifixion of Jesus are presented in Psalm 22 and other places. Psalm 22 was written about one thousand years prior to the crucifixion. Remember, all scripture is given by the inspiration of God (2 Timothy 3:16). 1 John 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. [This verse and others, such as Hebrews 2:14, tell us of at least one purpose for His crucifixion and death. There may be other reasons we can't fathom]. Regardless, study the Bible entirely. Don't just cherry pick a verse here and there. Get a more complete picture through personal study of God’s word. Study the whole Bible. Seek wisdom and knowledge that comes from above. “The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge.” (Stephen Hawking) | |
