Deceived? | |
Jesus tells us in many places, “take heed lest any man deceive you”. Have you heeded this command? I certainly hope so! It is your responsibility to learn His truths and not be deceived. The (only) way we will be able to spot deception in ourselves is by having knowledge of the truth. Where do you find that truth? You will find that truth in God's word (John 17:17). Verify for yourself what someone else says is in the Bible. Try the spirits, a very similar commandment of God; see 1 John 4:1 and 1 Thessalonians 5:21. http://www.unpopulartruth.org/areyoubeingdeceived.html http://www.precious-testimonies.com/Exhortations/p-t/SpiritualDeception.htm If you can document it in God's word, then by all means hang onto it. But, if it can't be documented, then forget it! (You) must decide for yourself based upon (your) study of God's Word. Don't rely totally on what someone else says is in the Bible; trust God, not man (Jeremiah 17:5 and 17:7). Seek Him through study of the Bible for His approval, not a man's approval, (2 Timothy 2:15). God commands us to try the spirits, (again, see 1 John 4:1). Proverbs 19:27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge. (He commands us to stop listening to false teachers; those that stray from teaching God's true word, deceivers. Can it get any more plain)? Ephesians 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; (Don't be easily swayed by listening to those who deceive you with different doctrines; such as those who teach and follow traditions of men. Become mature in His word by studying scripture and learning what the Bible actually says about Christ's doctrines only. See 2 John 1:9-11). James 1:22; But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. (If all you do is sit and listen to the word, what happens? You deceive yourself; you don't do what He actually tells you to do. Study His word and obey Him. Don't allow yourself to be deceived. It is so simple). Study and search Bible scriptures daily as those from Berea did. See Acts 17:11 and those verses around it. Seek His wisdom, if you want more wisdom, ask for it (James 1:5). Don’t allow yourself to be deceived because of Biblical illiteracy. There is only one truth you can count on eternally and that is truth from God’s Word. If someone says something is true, verify it is true or false by checking it out in God’s Word. This responsibility falls on each of us; see 1 John 4:1. You will never find that truth unless you look for it! It won't fall in your lap. | |
