The last wild wolf in California was killed in 1924. It wasn’t until 2011 that another crossed the border from Oregon. Today, gray wolves are making a remarkable recovery in the Golden State. This year, California is home to nine wolf packs, with an estimated population of 70, up from 44 just a year ago. Most of these packs reside in the northeastern region, though one has been identified roughly 200 miles north of Los Angeles. | |
